Boku No Hero Academia – Review
Synopsis: The world can be a dangerous place without super powers, but that’s the reality our protagonist Izuku faces. Since he was a kid, Izuku has looked up to the “Number One Hero” “All Might”, and aspires to be just like him.
Unfortunately only around eighty percent of the world’s population has these newly acquired super powers called “quirks”, so naturally many heroes and villains have appeared. It is Izuku’s dream to become a hero, but without a quirk it’s starting to look unlikely.
As of the time that I’m writing this only the first four episodes of “My Hero Academia have aired, but I’m already intrigued by this super fun and gripping series. At first glance, I wasn’t sure if “My Hero Acedamia” was going to be good or just the typical over hyped seasonal anime. After spending the first four episodes with this anime I’m glad to report that it’s not all hype. After the end of every episode you are left wanting more, and that’s exactly what an great anime series should do! Not only does this series have a fun plot, but the characters are very likable, which is one of the biggest reason why you will be hooked instantly. The main protagonist Izuku may not have a quirk growing up, but if there’s one thing he does have it’s the will to be a hero. Since, he is quirkless Izuku is constantly seen by others as cowardly and afraid, but what I love about this character is that he ignores his fears and charges forward to try to save those in need even without powers. So, the bottom line is that if you like Shonen anime with a ton of action and a side of humor than go watch “My Hero Academia”.
From this point forward there will be spoilers for up to episode four, so go watch it first before you continue to read this.
Episode 4: Starting Line
Man, “My Hero Acadamia” gets better every week! In episode 4 we are finally shown a glimpse of Izuku’s newly acquired quirk during the entrance exams, but unfortunately his body hasn’t adapted the borrowed quirk yet. I have to say that the reveal of Izuku’s quirk was my favorite part of the episode. That being said, during the beginning of the exam all the other students with confident and developed quirks were scoring points left and right, but when the biggest and scariest challenged appeared they all ran away in fear. At first Izuku was paralyzed in fear, but he soon noticed that the “nice girl” from earlier was stuck under the rubble of the fallen buildings, and without hesitation or realization of what his quirk was, Izuku ran forward to save the “nice girl”. That’s when Izuku’s quirk appeared, and although he was able to save her his body wasn’t ready for it yet. After four entertaining episodes I’m excited to see what the rest of the series has to offer. “My Hero Acedemia” is available on Hulu.
