I’ve been collecting Mondo Posters for some time now, and over the years Mondo and their artists have been pumping out some jaw dropping art that deserves to be recognized. This is simply a list of some of my favorite Mondo Posters, and are not in any particular order, so if you don’t see one of your favorite Mondo screen prints on this list let me know.
Wolf-Man by Laurent Durieux: Edition of 380 & Hand Numbered. Obviously this print was part of Mondo’s Universal Monsters release and looking back today I wish I picked up more than just the Wolf-Man.
Taxi Driver by Martin Ansin: Edition of 405 and Hnad Numbered. Back in March of 2013 Mondo had a select screening of Martin Scorsese’s classic Taxi Driver at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. The poster itself was a secret, but everyone knew the poster was going to be great. The anticipation of the screen print’s reveal is one of my favorite Mondo experience. On top of all of the excitement of the poster we also got to see a classic movie remastered in 4K.
Dark Knight Rises by Olly Moss (San Diego Comic Con Variant): Edition of 180 Hand Numbered and Signed. The San Diego Comic Con is a awe inspiring event, and scoring a rare Mondo Poster like this just adds to the experience. Now this edition is much larger than the regular edition, which was released at a later late as a Timed Release.
Iron Giant by Alex Ross Edition of 325. It’s just so hard picking a favorite and Alex Ross, legendary comic artist does’t make it any easier. Ross’s Iron Giant was part of Mondo’s first Mondo Con, which had it’s first year in 2014. The mini convention had a ton of great art, but due to the stunning colors I had to pick it up and frame it.
Spider-Man vs Doc Ock by Mike Sutfin Variant Edition of 175. This was another Mondo Con 2014 release, and it’s important to note that this print had a regular edition released at a later date. The colors are slightly different in the regular edition, but also has a larger print size, so keep that in mind if you go looking for this print on places like eBay.
The Goonies by Randy Ortiz Edition of 320. One of the backlashes of releasing prints in limited quantities is that not everyone can get their hands on them. That was the case for me with this release. If you collect Mondo Posters like I do, then you know that you have to be quick or you will miss out, and minutes after the sale is over the prints are already on ebay for crazy prices.
Posters by Martin Ansin, Ken Taylor, Rich Kelly, Phantom City Creative, Florian Bertmer and Jason Edmiston and Hand Numbered. I had to include all these posters as one since they are all awesome and were released as a set. Out of the set my favorite is Escape From The Planet of the Apes and the “Go Ape” poster. If you love The Planet of the Apes series like I do then you should agree that these are awesome, and wall worthy.
Gremlins by Drew Millward Edition of 210 and Hand Numbered. Don’t feed them after midnight or you’ll regret it! Watch this poster come to life when you shut the lights off! Yes, it glows in the dark! Mondo has done a few Gremlins posters but this is by far the best.
Captain America by Tyler Stout Edition of 650 and Hand Numbered. As I said earlier some Mondo Posters are very hard to almost impossible to get. The Art by Tyler Stout is the hardest to get. I’ve been collecting Mondo posters since late 2010 and I have never been successful in buying a Stout poster. That shows you how hard it snatch a Stout poster, and I have tried every online release, but it’s difficult to compete with bots.
The Jungle Book by Olly Moss Edition of 275. Out of all the artists that have produced posters for Mondo; Olly Moss is one of my favorites. His art is always eye catching and The Jungle Book is no exception. The orange color does an excellent job of catching your attention and drawing you in.
Do you agree with my list? If not let me know what your favorite Mondo posters are.
