Last night I was expecting to watch a new Dragon Ball Super, but to my surprise I was actually watching the season 3 premiere of Rick & Morty. Countless people said that season 3 would never come, but Adult Swim proved them all wrong. I had to pause for a second to think if I was actually seeing what I thought I was seeing. In deed, it was a new Rick & Morty. Adult Swim even said “You can stop bugging us now” on their site. Adult Swim sure knows how to pull a great April Fools Joke. Who would had expected to watch Rick & Morty Season 3 premiere on April 1st. In fact, everyone all over Facebook thought that it was a joke at first, but it was real. The joke was that it was real and therefore Adult Swim knew everyone would question it’s legitimacy.
When you start to think about it; releasing the season 3 premiere on April Fools was a genius move. It basically created free advertising for the new season. How you might ask. Well, everyone could not stop talking about it. The inter webs went nuts for the new Rick & Morty. If you have not watched the episode please stop here. From this point you will read spoilers.
I might be a little biased here, but I loved the Rick & Morty season 3 premiere. I finally feel like some questions were answered. For one thing, we finally met Beth’s mom Diane. We may had been introduced to Diane, but we still don’t know how she died. Her death in the episode was created by Rick to fool the Galactic Federation. But for one thing, her death turned him into the Rick we know today.
Secondly, we learned what Rick’s true Dark motivation is. It’s to have “Mulan” McNugget sauce again! We also got more confirmation that Rick can break the Fourth Wall. For those who don’t know, breaking the Fourth Wall is when a fictional character knows he or she is fictional. Rick says that he will find more sauce even if it takes nine seasons. I’m assuming that this means that Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon want to continue producing Rick & Morty episodes for many years to come. On the other hand, they could just be pulling our legs.
On the same note it seems that fans love this new running McDonalds gag. So much so that fans have been trolling McDonalds for them to bring back the Szechuan Sauce. There’s even a petition on Change.com with over 1,900 signatures. I also found this Tweet from McDonalds. Now I’m sure it’s probably fake, but I still think it’s really funny.
Bottom line is that the Rick & Morty Season 3 premiere was Awesome. I feel like there was so much material jammed into a 3o minute episode, so I’m sure there were some Easter eggs I missed. The rest of season 3 will air this summer.
